Licensing Options
Safe Software offers flexible licensing options to meet your specific spatial ETL requirements:
Evaluation Licenses (or Trial Licenses)
Evaluation licenses are time-limited licenses that expire after a set number of days:
- Download a 14-day trial of FME Desktop.
- Contact us at 604-501-9985 x.287 or sales@safe.com to request an evaluation of FME Server.
Single-Fixed Licenses (or Node-Locked Licenses)
A single-fixed FME license is designed to enable FME to work on a single specified computer. To install FME on a different computer, you must request a new license key.
Example: Two users in your team need to use FME. Each person has his own computer. Two single-fixed licenses are required.
Available for: FME Desktop
Note: This license type is not supported on Citrix systems or in situations where a mapped network drive is being used in place of a local C drive. See floating licenses.
Hardware-Locked Licenses
A hardware-locked license is locked to a hardware-key (or dongle). You can install FME on as many computers as you like, but FME can only be run when a hardware-key is attached to the computer.
Example: A user has both a laptop and a desktop computer. He needs to run FME on both, but never at the same time. A hardware-locked license will enable FME to be installed on both computers, but only run on the one with the dongle plugged in.
Available for: FME Desktop
Floating License (or Concurrent Licenses)
A floating license enables a number of concurrent users to simultaneously access a single FME deployment. FlexLM software is installed on a machine that acts as a license server by issuing a license to any client computer that requests one. If the number of user requests exceeds the number of floating licenses purchased, a user will need to wait until one of the active FME users closes FME on their computer so that the FME license is returned to the license server.
Example: Ten people need to use FME but only five people will likely need to be using the software at the same point in time. FME is installed on each user's computer. Any workstation can run FME, but only a maximum of five workstations can access FME at any one time. If a sixth person tries to use FME, he will have to wait until one of the first five users has finished using the application.
Available for: FME Desktop and FME Server
